   Hi Folks,

I really hope 2008 is treating you right so far. It’s hard to believe we’re staring down the barrel of another year. C’mon now, think back about 30 years ago, and be honest. With the way you were living and all the partying you were doing did you really think you were gonna’ make it to see 2008? Didn’t think so. Neither did I.

Well…Congratulations! Rejoice! ‘Cuz’ if you’re reading this you made it and probably by the skin of your teeth. Now that we’re here, though, I’m starting to think that maybe, just maybe, it’s time to take a little better care of ourselves. If it’s not too late!

Hell, most of the heroes from my younger days began their eternal dirt-nap years ago. But I’m beginning to believe that the next decade is gonna’ be one of the most interesting in history and I’d like to have a ringside seat for all the action.

I must admit, though, that the future sure ain’t what it used to be. I’m still waiting to see the flying cars, pollution–free fuel sources and utopian societies that were somewhat optimistically envisioned in the science-fiction I read when I was a kid. On the other hand, we do have some cool stuff. Cell phones that look like Star Trek phasers, iPods that let you keep your whole music collection in your pocket, the internet providing the wealth of human knowledge at your fingertips, DVD’s, cable TV and really hot school teachers that go the extra mile for their students when it comes to sex education. “No child left behind?” Indeed. I think some of those teachers think it’s supposed to be, “No child’s behind left.”

And, of course, aside from all the other concerns and considerations (read: Bullshit) we are in an election year where, for the first time in history, a woman, a person of color and an old white guy are duking it out to be the leader of the free-world. Man, Wrestlemania couldn’t dream up a battle like this! If this is the new world order I’ll have mine with fries, hot apple pie and a shot of tequila. (Yeah, so much for taking better care of myself. I’ll start again tomorrow. AAArrrgghh!)

So to quote one of my favorite movie stars, the wonderful Bette Davis in the movie, “All About Eve,” “Hang on…it’s going to be a bumpy ride.”

But what the hell! We might as well have some fun, right? Meanwhile, back at the ranch, in my little world I am finally back north and trying to acclimate myself to the cold weather. It seems to get a little more difficult every year.

Thanks to everyone who made it to all our winter shows. In spite of the economy, we have been having, in general, excellent turnouts and I surely appreciate all the support.

Special thanks to everyone who made it all the way down to Sloppy Joe’s in Key West, Fl. for Put-in-Bay Days. It was another huge success. What a great time we had getting together with all our old friends Pat Dailey, Pete & Wayne, Ray Fogg and Bob Gatewood.

So, it’s getting to be that time of year when people start thinking about getting back to Put-In-Bay and I believe 2008 promises to be another great season on South Bass Island.

This year my opening weekend at the Round House Bar is April 26 & 27. My new 2008 schedule is now posted on the schedule page so take a look and make your hotel reservations now. We also have plenty of off-island shows and some new clubs scheduled with more to come so check back to the schedule page from time to time.

There are a couple of new projects I am excited to tell you about. One is the new Bob Adamov book “The Other Side Of Hell.”

In this fifth installment of Adamov’s Put-in-Bay mystery/adventure novels I am one of the central characters in the story and get to share in the exploits with the series main character Emerson Moore.

I have to admit it was great fun to read (and lend a hand in editing) the manuscript. I think you will enjoy this exciting tale as it winds its’ way from Put-in-Bay to Key West to Grand Cayman Island.

The book, due out in May 2008, will feature a new compilation CD that includes eleven specially-chosen previously-released songs from my Lake ~ Affect and Stuck On the Island CD’s along with a brand new original song which is the title of the book, “The Other Side of Hell.”

I previewed the new song at the shows in Key West…thanks for singing along!

We are just wrapping up the final touches on the book and cd and we are looking at a Memorial Day Weekend release date. Once again check back to this site in May for further info as we’ll have much more about the book, CD and other upcoming events for later in the season.

Also, watch for some shows this year with my new band. Yep, uh-huh, a band. We put it together earlier this winter just for fun to do a couple of gigs. It was so much fun that we’re gonna’ do a few more select shows later this year. I’ll have more on those dates later.

BTW I don’t have a name for the band yet so maybe we’ll have a contest for the best name. If you have any ideas send them to me at mikemaddogadams@msn.com
