More Dates to be added. Check it out! Hi Folks, Man, it sure has been a busy winter...and, as usual, there are lot's of folks to thank. I always feel it's important to let you know how much I appreciate your continued support and the opportunity to entertain us all year after year. First off, thanks to everyone who joined us at all our shows so far in 2011. We've had a great time and covered a lot of territory from Ohio & Michigan to the Florida Keys, The Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Canada and many points in-between. Let's just say that very few stones and shells were left unturned. A big thanks to my trusty assistant, friend and sidekick, Tim "Coconut Pomps" for always being at the ready, watching my back and sharing these wild adventures with me. Sometimes I think he's keeping me young, sometimes I think he's making me old. Either way it's all good 'til ya' look in the mirror! Man, the stories we can't tell. We started off the year with a really fun Jan. Sunday afternoon show and a good crowd at Cabana Jack's in Sandusky, Oh. Thanks to John Benson for the nice write-up and pic in the Sandusky Funcoast Magazine. We then moved on to a couple nights in Lewiston, Mi. @ The Lewiston Hotel. Extremely cold and a long eight hour drive to and from the gig that weekend. Small crowd but big fun, thanks to those who drove a long way in crummy weather. Hey, it's Michigan, it's January...it's a challenge! Took Tim for his first trip across the Mackinac bridge in a snow and ice storm. Great lunch on the other side then we got scalped at the Indian Casino big-time! It was a privilage to be invited to perform for the Docktrash 20th anniversary party at Mr. Ed's in Port Clinton, Oh with my Electric Walleye Band. Doug Gardner and these folks can party better than rock stars. Well, hell, they're power-boaters! Let's not wait another 20 yrs. BTW I thought the band was really cookin' for that show! Winter wouldn't be complete without a trip to Clamdigger's in Monre, Mi. Owner Glen Shannon (aka Capt. Clamtastic) always throws a good party and is a guy I consider to be a good friend. We hope to see eveyone there again in July. I know everyone enjoyed our annual Super Bowl weekend party, again, with my Electric Walleye Band, at Mr. Ed's in Port Clinton, Oh. It's always a big time with my buddy Ed Fitzgerald and his family and crew. Sure wish I could finally win on one of those damn game boards. We are going to try to do a few more shows with the Electric Walleye Band somewhere later this year. And, also, with the Flyin' J's (read below). Haven't picked the clubs or events yet but I'll keep ya' posted. After Super Bowl Weekend it was time to drive directly to Key West, Fl for the beginning of our annual 6 week winter tour that took us to several states and three different countries. We always drive to Florida then fly outta' Miami or Ft. Lauderdale after some shows in the Keys. The Key West shows at Sloppy Joe's for the three-day Put-in-Bay Musicfest were a gas with all our PIB pals and hosts, Pete & Wayne, and we also got to tie in a Monday night show in Summerland Key with our friends Terry Cassidy and Alex Bevan. As always, many thanks to my good friends Jim and Dee Kimes for loaning me their Key West home for a week when I come to perform. We may be setting up some shows for the Key West Off-Shore Power Boat Races next Nov...more later. We also did two shows at one of my favorite Keys restaurants, Ziggie and Mad Dog's, in Islamorada. The name belies this quaint little unassuming steak and chop house that has awesome food and very good service along with a nice wine list. It was pretty funny when two irate customers tried to get the manger to stop me from performing because they didn't like my political monologue and song, "Buy Me A Big Boat Obama." The manager informed them that he wouldn't even consider interupting the show, which everyone else was enjoying including me. So these two jackwagons created a big scene and skipped out on their dinner tab because they couldn't get their way. Essentially screwing the restaurant and the waitress out of her hard earned tip. We made sure she was taken care of though. From Islamorada we spent an afternoon at Alabama Jack's between Homestead and Key Largo with my Michigan buddies Capn' Ron, T-Rex and their crew who were down for the Miami Boat Show. Live country music, drinks, genuine cracker-style everglades food, and dancing, this place is a must stop on your way in and out if the Florida Keys. Ten miles out of Key Largo on Card Sound Road and open from 11am to 7pm they have the very best conch fritter -yes, one big-ass sweet fritter- in the Florida Keys Then it was on to our group trip to Punta Cana, Domincan Republic which was a total blast! thanks to Tom Coughlin and Carmen Figueroa who did a great job putting this trip together. Everyone always wants to know how many people go on the trips. It's no secret, we always wind up with anywhere between 35 and 100 people. One thing I've learned about these trips is that its' fun to go with others. You do what you want to and there is always some one to hang out and share your day with AND we have little impromptu music parties and jam sessions. You can play hard or just relax and chill. We're already working up the destination for next year's group trip and I don't want to give it away yet but it's gonna' be a big Caribbean party destination. After all this, Tim and I hopped back to Miami and jumped on a plane to visit our buddy, Yogi, in Costa Rica. I picked guitar and had some fun in a couple places but mostly we hung around the pool, hit the bars and casino and did plenty of beach combing. No really. Taxi John flew down and joined us but I think he was a little disappointed that by this time we were into a very low-key mode. We never even hit the infamous Beetle Bar. Oh yeah, one thing about the casinos this trip. They beat the hell outta' me. Let's just say I won't be doing much gambling for awhile. But Tim hit his first Royal Flush on video poker. After Costa Rica we flew back to Miami to head to our next 4 shows in St. Pete's Beach, Fl at the Coconuts Comedy Club. As expected, after 2 1/2 weeks in the Caribbean I kinda' forgot where I parked the truck. DUH! Eventually we found it and hightailed it across Alligator Alley around 3 am to a cheap motel in Naples. Then on to St. Pete's Beach which is probably my favorite place in Florida next to the Keys. I've been performing there for 20 years so it's almost like being home and I get to see a lot of my picker friends (not garbage or antiques). It's a good place to perform and work on my stand-up comedy chops. Plus they put us up for a week in the best resort hotel on the strip! After that week it was back to northern reality and St, Paddy's Day in Cleveland, Oh. at The Blind Pig. An Irish good time was had by all. Special thanks to the bagpipers and the firemen for dropping by for a pint. Many thanks to everyone who attended our third annual Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser at Musica in Akron, Ohio. This event has gotten bigger each year and we may have to move it to a larger venue for 2012. Special thanks to promoter/organizer Mike Sweeney, The Flyin' J's, Alex Bevan and Tommy Coughlin. It was a fine afternoon of music and laughs. That night we joined the J's for their gig at a club in Akron but it's all kind of blurry....I do remember Tim getting up to perform a couple of his tunes with the band. That brings me to our up coming shows for the spring and summer. I'm looking forward to start kicking off the season for several places in the Lake Erie island area and I hope the weather co-operates.
I hope 2011 treats you well and we get to see you at some of the shows.
