WHO GETS THE ISLAND

(Mike Adams)

(I was visiting a friend in Ft. Meyers Beach, Fl. and I asked him where his wife was.  He told me that they had recently split up.  I offered him my congratulations, uh, I mean condolences.  He said that everything was alright except for the custody battle.  I said, “What custody battle?  You guys don’t have any kids.”

He said, “Yeah we do.  We’re fighting over who gets the island.”

I had to immediately write down that line.  I got to wondering how many people split up and fight over who gets the island.

Musically, we went for dark and brooding.  Break out the razor blades.)

Dark clouds form on the horizon

I can feel a chill in the air

The pressure is on and I’m surmising

That this calm before the storm

Is because I just can’t share

And I wanna’ know

Who gets the island?

Who gets the friends?

Who gets the sun and the fun and the sand?

When the endless summer ends.

Who gets those memories that keep us apart?

Who gets the island?

Who gets my heart?

You know I’ve always been a survivor

I could stand and face the wind

But there’s too much pain

That’s caused by all this rain

And it’s coming from the eye

Of this hurricane that were in

And I wanna’ know

(Chorus)

Every time I see that girl

I know she would agree

She’ll never love that guy she’s with

The way she still loves me

(Chorus)
